Metal & Acrylic Finish Library for Signage and Facades

Choosing the right base material and finish drives how a sign or facade element performs over time: how it weathers, how it reads at a distance, how much it costs to maintain, and how closely it matches a brand’s specified colour or texture. This library sets out the real materials, metal treatments and acrylic grades Metroplus fabricates with in-house, so architects, designers and procurement teams can specify with confidence before a tender or shop-drawing stage.

Metal Materials

We fabricate signage structures, channel letters, cladding panels and architectural metalwork from the following base metals, selected by application, budget and exposure conditions:

• Aluminium – lightweight, corrosion-resistant and easy to fabricate; the default choice for architectural facades, cladding and outdoor signage structures that need strength without excess weight.
• Mild Steel – strong and weldable at a lower cost, used for structural frames and internal supports; can be treated to resist corrosion where required.
• Galvanized Steel – zinc-coated for enhanced corrosion resistance, suited to outdoor and industrial-grade structural work in the UAE climate.
• Stainless Steel – strong, corrosion-resistant and premium in appearance; used for both structural components and visible decorative signage elements in retail, hospitality and facade work.
• Copper – excellent corrosion resistance and a distinctive natural patina over time; used for decorative architectural cladding and feature elements.
• Brass – durable, corrosion-resistant, with a warm gold-toned finish; common for decorative signage hardware and interior brand elements.
• Corten Steel (Weathering Steel) – develops a controlled rust-like patina over time for a distinctive architectural look, while resisting further corrosion beneath that surface layer.

Metal Finishing & Treatment Processes

Beyond the base metal, the finishing process determines weather resistance, colour consistency and long-term appearance. Our in-house capabilities include:

• PVDF Coating – a highly durable, weather-resistant coating for architectural and exterior applications, protecting against UV exposure and extreme weather while giving a smooth, long-lasting finish. Suited to high-performance facades and cladding that need long-term durability with low maintenance.
• Powder Coating – an electrostatically-applied, oven-cured coating that resists scratching, chipping and fading, available across a wide range of colours and textures for both structural and visible signage components.
• Electroplating – deposits a thin metal layer onto a substrate for enhanced corrosion resistance and a refined appearance, often used on components that need long-term wear resistance.
• Anodizing – an electrochemical process that strengthens the natural oxide layer on metal (typically aluminium), improving corrosion resistance and durability while allowing a range of finish tones – widely used in architectural and facade applications.

These treatments are applied using our in-house CNC turret punching, CNC perforation, laser cutting, laser welding, CNC bending and TIG/MIG/ARC welding capabilities, allowing finish and fabrication method to be matched to the design intent from the same production floor. Acrylic Materials & Alternatives

For illuminated letters, display fixtures, partitions and lightweight decorative elements, we work primarily in cast acrylic (PMMA), with polycarbonate and PVC foam board as alternatives depending on the application:

• Acrylic (PMMA) – the clearest optical finish and the best scratch resistance of the three; the default choice for illuminated letters, display stands and retail fixtures.
• Polycarbonate – more impact-resistant and better suited to high-traffic or vandal-prone areas, though it scratches more easily and yellows faster under direct sun than acrylic.
• PVC Foam Board – lighter and more budget-friendly for short-term or indoor signage, but not suited to structural or load-bearing pieces.

Sheet sizes and thickness: acrylic sheet stock is typically supplied in 4x8ft (1220 x 2440mm) and 5x10ft (1525 x 3050mm) sheets, in thicknesses from around 2mm for thin overlays and printed panels up to 25mm or more for structural display bases and thick-profile letterforms. Larger installations are built from multiple bonded or seamed panels rather than a single oversized sheet, with joints planned into the design so they read cleanly. Tolerances are tightened for illuminated letterforms and visible signage faces, and relaxed for backing panels and structural components that won’t be seen at close range.
